Aroma: German malt aroma. A lightly toasted malt aroma. No
fruitiness, or hop aroma.
Appearance: Dark gold with reddish amber hues. Bright clarity,
with solid off-white foam in the head.
Flavor: Distinctive and complex maltiness, include a soft
toasted or caramelized malt aspect. Hop bitterness is light. Balance is toward
malt, though the finish is not overly sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, with a creamy texture.
Overall Impression: Smooth and rather rich, with a depth of
malt character. This is one of the classic malty styles, with a maltiness that
is often described as complex, and elegant but never cloying.
Ingredients: German 2-Row malt is the backbone, mixed with
Munich and Carapils malts to round out the grain bill. Continental hops, and
especially noble varieties of hops are added to the boil in a traditional three
part process. Slow fermented cold with German lager yeast.
